The “Sonic Boom” team is German Champion of the “Formula 1 at School” competition.
The international technology competition ”Formula 1 at School“ (www.f1inschools.de) is the world’s largest school student competition. Teams of 3 to 6 students are tasked with building a miniature race car that has to adhere to the stringent design requirements similar to Formula 1 race cars. The miniature power racers are propelled by a CO2 cartridge and top out at more than 70 km/h on a racetrack of 20 meters.
Aside from race time, various other criteria are judged as well including: technical design, manufacturing quality, the team’s presentation stand, the documentation and the presentation. Any necessary budgets and services have to be organized by the teams themselves. But before heading to the finals, the teams have to advance through various regional competitions in order to qualify for participation in the German Championship.
The miniature race cars are accelerated to almost 70 km/h at the trade show stand.
Valtech Mobility was happy to sponsor “Sonic Boom”, a team of five from the 12th grade at the Graf-Rasso High School in Fürstenfeldbruck, and its interactive 3D model of the race car. In April 2020, the team was successful in leaving its competition behind in the Regional South-East Championship and thus eligible for the German Championship that took place last Saturday in Heilbronn. Sonic Boom had to face tough competition there at a very high technical level of excellence, but thanks to their many years of experience, they eventually took home the cup as the best team and were also handed the ticket to the World Championship.
The Word Championship event – according to the latest news – will take place in Melbourne Australia in March of 2021, where our graduates are going to spend an exciting and sometimes nerve-wracking week
We want to congratulate the team and wish them all best of luck for their preparations!
