Up and coming female junior IT talents are rare. The number of female students enrolling into IT classes has seen only a small uptick over the last few years and it’s still mostly men and not women who sit in the lecture halls of MINT classes (Math, IT, natural sciences, technology). What to do?, thought our colleagues from Valtech Sweden, racked their brains and without much adoo came up with the initiative “Tech Girl”, which by now has entered Sweden’s media mainstream and is getting girls enthusiastic about programming.

Last week was our German colleagues’ debut. 20 girls, 5th and 6th graders from the Marie-Curie-Gymnasium Düsseldorf, were invited to the Düsseldorf Office to take their first steps (under the supervision of Inga Chaban, Iaroslava Grinchenko and Roxana Muresan) in the world of Sctratch programming. And since the response was overwhelming, there will be a part 2 (HTML) in two weeks. Planned is a long-term collaboration and a roll-out of the program at other German Valtech locations ( Canada and UK are also on board). Very cool!
