The first all-electric Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan models using our Hybrid Architecture backend are on the road.<\/p>\n
Since mid-2019, the VW Group and its Cariad software division have been pursuing the goal of enabling faster and more efficient development of end customer functionalities by setting up a new backend platform. At the same time, existing technologies and services need to be integrated efficiently. The solution for this is the hybrid software architecture we developed.<\/p>\n
The vehicles are networked via various backend platforms already established or newly developed within the Group. The main innovation made possible by the hybrid architecture is the support of edge containers, which can be continuously rolled out to vehicles via software updates. The approach here is to roll out services easily, quickly and cost-effectively to different vehicle platforms through the seamless integration of different back- and front-ends.<\/p>\n
The solution is based on AKS and was implemented in Java and Spring Boot and supports both synchronous communication via REST APIs and asynchronous communication via MQTT and Kafka. In addition to the development, Valtech Mobility is also responsible for the operation of the solution and the rollout in Europe, North America and China. As Valtech Mobility is also responsible for setting up and operating the infrastructure, “Infrastructure as Code” (IaC) using ARM plays a central role and enables the almost completely automated setup of a new environment.<\/p>\n
We are proud to be part of this successful development and look forward to using our hybrid architecture for the first combustion vehicles such as the new Audi A5 and Q5 models.<\/p>\n
